The biggest talk of the hallways lately has been the BHS prom, which is set for Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. This year’s theme is Starry Night.
The Branford Buzz spoke to the class of 2026 advisors Megan Paul and Shannon Carey, and student council co-advisor Alicia Loesche, about what wonders the night’s festivities will hold.
“It has been quite busy leading up to prom this week,” Paul opened in an interview with The Buzz.
Ticket prices range each year, due the cost of the venue and class fundraisers. Tickets for seniors are free, and this year juniors had to pay $95.00 per ticket.
“I believe last year it was the same price,” Paul said. “But if we had looked at other venues it would have gone up and we didn’t want to change over $100.”
What sets prom apart from other dances like homecoming is that it provides a more elegant setting. Fancy decor, moonlit lighting, and vivid scenery will create a classy atmosphere and mood, the organizers added.
The Woodwinds, a wedding venue, is located in Branford and has an outstanding rating of 5/5 and multiple positive reviews according to WeddingWire.
One thing that is similar to homecoming is that there will be breathalyzer tests at the venue, according to House Principal Joe Briganti. In addition, students need to be present in school on Friday for at least three periods to attend.
Planning for prom and fundraising usually starts in each class’s sophomore year. Then senior year rolls around, that’s the time to arrange venues, raise money, and buy decorations. Later in the year, the prom theme is picked by a whole class vote, this year’s being “Starry Night.”
The class officers themselves also take it upon themselves in arriving at the venue early the day of prom to set everything up.
“It was also a lot of planning with guest forms, chaperones, and final headcount,” Paul added.
This year’s event will feature several fun activities, in addition to dancing, including a full dinner, two photo booths, and a royal court.
Organizers said that instead of naming a “prom king” and “prom queen,” there will be a whole “court” elected, adding a sense of inclusion.
