Branford Public Schools has once again been recognized as one of the Best Communities for Music Education by The NAMM Foundation, a national honor that celebrates strong support for music programs in schools.
Now in its 27th year, the award highlights districts across the country that are committed to making music a meaningful part of every student’s education. In 2026, more than 1,000 schools and districts nationwide earned this distinction.
The “Best Communities for Music Education” award is based on a detailed review process that looks at factors like funding, student participation, instructional time, facilities, and community support. Applications are independently evaluated by WolfBrown, a national research firm specializing in arts and education.
For Branford, the recognition is especially meaningful—it marks the second year in a row the district has received the honor.
“It is an honor for Branford’s music department to be recognized two years in a row as a Best Community for Music Education,” said Michael Martone, the Branford High School Choir Director and Department Lead for the Arts.
“Our music educators continually push themselves to improve and grow the music curriculum and experiences in Branford. This is an exceptional group of teachers who never fail to deliver the highest quality music education to our students, and I am proud to be among them,” he added.
The Branford Public Schools recently announced the award.
Music has long been a point of pride in Branford. Students across the District begin with a strong foundation in general music and can explore a wide range of opportunities as they grow, including band, orchestra, chorus, jazz, guitar, and music technology, according to a press release from Superintendent Christopher Tranberg.
The program’s success is fueled not only by dedicated teachers, but also by strong community support and the passion of Branford’s student musicians, the release said.
Together, they continue to make music an important and vibrant part of the Branford school experience.
