Due to recent snow days, the in school SAT Day for juniors has been moved by Principal Lee Panagoulias, pushing it off until April 23 with is after spring break.
Panagoulias stated that the change will give students and teachers more time for additional and deeper learning through the school’s recent SAT initiative – “Ready. Set. Rise.” The change was announced last week.
The schoolwide initiative is designed to support juniors academically, emotionally, and in making important decisions in their high school career, Panagoulias said, adding that teachers will implement and guide students through important themes to prepare them.
Several juniors said they were glad the SAT Day was moved back.
Robbie Sharkey said that he believes the extension is a good thing because it will give teachers more time to present materials and students to practice them.
“Anyone (like me) who also couldn’t find the time to study, now has more (time) to use wisely,” Robbie said. Robbie added that he hopes everyone “locks in”.
Social Studies teacher David Trotta, who teaches Current Issues to Juniors, also said he believes that it is a very good thing that students have more time to prepare.
“If you study enough before spring break,” Trotta said. “You won’t have to worry about it then.”

To help motivate students, according to Panagoulias, there will be celebratory events to recognize individual and collective growth. These events are:
- A class celebration if the junior class achieves an average score of 500 or higher in both Math and Reading/Writing
- An individual recognition for students who demonstrate meaningful growth in Math and Reading/Writing compared to their PSAT score from the Fall
“Our goal is to ensure every student feels supported, prepared, and proud of their effort,” Panagoulias said.
Another junior, Mykenzie Medina, said she also supports moving the SAT and thinks that other students also appreciate it.
“I’m happy it got moved,” she said.
