Branford High School senior Zander Solano loves photography, and has been a fixture at many Hornet athletic events over the past few years.
Recently, he got the opportunity to bring his passion for photography to Yankee Stadium, fulfilling a life-long dream.
Solano’s career began when his friend Jack Mautte (‘26), got him interested in photography a few years ago. He started taking his camera with him to all the events he attended, and eventually realized he “really liked taking pictures and showing the story of the game through his photographs.”
The public can find Solano’s work on his Instagram account @bfd.visuals.
Solano’s career in photography has rapidly grown since he gained experience in high school. The main events he looks forward to photographing are sports. Solano added how he believes he likes photographing sports the most because he “grew up around sports. Not only being a fan but also playing many sports growing up such as Baseball, Basketball, and now Hockey.”
It really keeps his athletic side awake and helps him to be creative while he is around athletic events, he said.
Solano got to photograph at Yankee Stadium, Friday April 24th, for a Savannah Banana vs. Party Animals game.
“I mean, it was surreal,” he said. “Growing up a Yankees fan I knew when I saw the Savannah Bananas going to the stadium, it was one of my best chances at shooting at the stadium I dreamed of going to every year.”
In November of 2025, Solano heard about the opportunity to photograph the game, and quickly secured his credentials and emailed the staff at Yankee Stadium.
When told that he had to wait until the end of the season to apply for the job, Solano didn’t quit. He reached out to them again in February, and received the application form which he submitted with hundreds of other photographers. Solano said getting the email that he was being accepted for the job was crazy.
“Being on the field you watched your favorite baseball players play on was surreal,” Solano said.
Upon graduating from BHS this June, he plans to attend Springfield College and study sports management or business while also working with sports teams to continue improving his photography skills.
