Love, Death, Eyes, and Hungry Tuna: The Winter/Valentine’s Day Calliope is here!

Staff reports

The winter/Valentine’s Day issue of Calliope, BHS’s magazine of student writing and artwork, is in the building, and you can get your own copy from Mr. Matthiessen in room F14 for just $1.

The magazine editors once again selected the contents of this issue from among many contributions. “This was my last issue of Calliope because I graduated early,” said senior co-editor-in-chief Mia DeLucia. “We always have so many contributions — it really shows how much talent and creativity there is at BHS. I’ll miss working on Calliope!”

The current issue’s front cover features an eye-catching painting by junior Stacia Comen. Inside is a series of photographs of three-dimensional art by Angelica Marcela Pagan, Tasia Eammons, and Robbie Sharkey, a poem titled “Dysphoria” by senior Aurora Lyon, then the strange story of a commercial fishing venture gone horribly wrong, which was written by an anonymous author.

The centerpiece of the issue is a pair of photo collages submitted by three members of the BHS Photography Club, Luci Mena, Zach Karge, and Shay Torres. Students interested in this club can learn more through the Google Classroom with code 5r3tt3z.

Next is a story of contemporary love by Dhruvi Desai, followed by poems by Gabby Silva, Kaitlyn Cheslock, and Jacob Blasiak. These works are accompanied by four diverse art pieces involving eyes: a moody graphic by Madison Patton, a broach by Zu Zu Pont Strong, a fun painting by Makenzie Petrillo, then a truly dazzling painting by Lilah LeBlanc to close the issue.

Calliope club members include co-editors-in-chief Mia DeLucia and Noah Fischer, Xavier Geissler, Maddie Patton, Estelle Pechkis, and Gabbie Silva.

If you’d like to contribute to Calliope or join the staff, keep an eye out for meeting times and deadlines in the school slideshow, talk to a current club member or Mr. Matthiessen, or join the Google Classroom with code j7v5c2l.
