As fall begins, the Branford Cross Country team is getting ready for an important race in Rhode Island this Saturday as they prepare for the upcoming October championship race season.
The team has already competed in four meets this season and is excited for this larger event.
Saturday’s race – the Ocean State Invitational – will take place in East Greenwich, RI, at Goddard State Park, which is a beautiful location, covering 490 acres and featuring a nine-hole golf course, 18 miles of bridle paths, a full beach, game fields, a performing arts center, and more.
Although small in numbers, the cross-country team is looking forward to big performances.
The Branford team includes two girls: Charlotte Kenney, a freshman, and Caitlyn Lentner, a junior.
The boys’ team has nine members: ninth graders Sawyer Gaudreau and Vincent Gustavson; sophomores Cooper Ranton and Cormac Fichtenholtz; and seniors David Regan, Supremee Shrestha, Nolan Weted, and Paul Lesyk. The captains are Regan and Shrestha.
Branford will face strong competition from schools such as Archbishop Williams High School, Boston College High School, and Guilford High School, among others. The team has been training hard all summer and is looking forward to this race, with their next meet scheduled for the Southern Connecticut Conference Division Championship in Guilford.
