As the school year turns to October, many members of the BHS community may have already had the opportunity to meet all the new teachers and staff at Branford High School. To help introduce the new staff to BHS, The Branford Buzz began featuring the new teachers last week. Over the coming days, The Buzz will be publishing Q & A interviews with all the new staff members.
Today’s feature is on Ms. Mia Bissonnette, who is a math teacher.
Subject: Math: Algebra 1 and Geometry
Classroom location: B27
Why did you become a teacher?
I became a teacher to help students feel all around confident. Math is such a difficult subject and students often replica rolex feel they are “not good at math” before they even start. My goal is to make every student feel like math is something they can not only handle, but excel at.
What is your background and how did you end up here at BHS?
Before BHS, I worked at a therapeutic boarding school for two years teaching math. Each student had their own curriculum, and students in the class could be working on anything from pre-algebra to calculus depending on their own needs and abilities. It was a great experience that taught me a lot about diverse learners. I am here at BHS to return to my original dream of becoming a high school teacher in a public school.
What do you like about BHS?
I love how at BHS, all students are so engaged in the learning and have a strong drive to do well in classes!
Tell me about your family or your interests.
I love outdoor activities, going to festivals and fairs, and just spending time with friends and family.
What is a favorite book, song, movie, or TV show and why?
I love Beyonce’s music, she is such a great example of dedication and putting in the work to be successful!
