Last Spring senior Leila Omeragic worked with Health teacher Mrs. Stackpole to start a club called Mental Health Matters, which is part of a national organization that works with schools and children all across the country in building mental health programs that are accessible for everyone.
The club is readying for another successful year this school year.
The national organization, Bring Change To Mind (BC2M), is a collaborative group that values the voices of our youth in America. They are on a mission to reduce stigma around mental health and to improve the lives of those who may be struggling with their mental health.
“I’m honored to work alongside Roslyn and Mrs. Stackpole and be part of the backbone of this amazing program that will be making a difference in the near future at BHS,” said Jenna Defrancesco, the new co-president of the club.
“During our first official year as a club I hope to implement a change to our schools overall awareness and positivity for anyone and everyone,” said Roslyn Iaderosa, who is co-president.
Bring Change to Mind began as a HIVE choice with only a few people joining, but now there has been an overwhelmingly large number of students who are interested in joining.
The club still meets as a HIVE choice and will also start meeting after school (the day is yet to be determined).
They discuss topics and issues revolving around mental health that seem to not be talked about enough in our school and then they get to work planning events that are fun and engaging for students as well as informative. They hang up posters around the school with resources for mental health hotlines and counselors here at BHS.
The group also takes field trips to events hosted by BC2M. The club is always looking for new members and ideas, so if mental health awareness is something you are passionate about, feel free to join the club by contacting Mrs. Stackpole or our new club co-presidents.
