From staff reports
Just in time for Halloween — the 48th issue of Calliope, BHS’s magazine of student writing and artwork, is making its creepy way to your house! Get your own copy from Mr. Matthiessen in room F14 for just $1…but only if you dare.
The magazine editors selected its contents from among many other contributions. “It was tough to choose!” said junior editor-in-chief Holly Fischer. “There is a lot of writing and artistic talent at BHS. Giving a preference to items with a Halloween theme made the process a little easier. Many of the pieces that we couldn’t fit in will appear in the winter and spring issues later this year.”
The issue’s front cover features a fanciful illustration of a pumpkin patch by freshman Noah Fischer. The inside opens with two poems by senior Alya Bagdas, as well as graphic works in complementary colors by Alya and junior Clare Barnett. Farther in is a terrifying short story by senior Rowan Rondinone, set off by artwork by fellow seniors Paige Hodson and Gianna Bozzi. Other contributors to this issue include Christine Do, Dylan Dwyer, Evie Kaiser, Ryder Kropiwnicki, McKenzie McCall, Nicholas Myers, Bela Osler, Sasha Perkins, Lia Steskla, Nishat Zahan, and several anonymous contributors.
“Those who like a strong dose of scarification will enjoy this issue very much, but it may not be for everyone,” said club advisor Mr. Matthiessen. “Some people can’t really handle this level of spookification. You’ve been warned.”
Other Calliope staff include Noah Fischer, Hannah Jackson, Ian MacDougall, and Shanza Zaidi. Calliope is published four times a year during the school year.
