This year’s race for Snow-coming royalty included a not-so-fierce battle between brothers for the title of king and a near-sweep by the cross country team for the title of queen.
Members of the senior class were nominated by their senior classmates during advisory last week; the four boys and four girls with the most votes became princes and princesses. The Snowco court consisted of Noah Degoursey, Zac Degoursey, Miles Conlin, Owen Boyle, Lily Kirby, Kendall Simmons, Cyrene Nicholas, and Sophie Angelo. There must be something in the water at cross country practice, as Simmons, Nicholas, and Angelo are all members of the girls’ team.
As dance-goers entered the lobby Friday night, many were enthusiastic about certain candidates, but even the Student Council members who organized the dance had no idea who would win. Most unsuspecting of all was Student Council co-president Lily Kirby, who would be named Snowco Queen later that night.
When asked about winning the title, Kirby admitted that she “felt really silly” wearing the tiara, but she thought it was a great way to end the night. As she had been tasked with making sure the dance ran smoothly, Kirby was more excited over the night’s success than her own, exclaiming, “I love our town and school so much and I’m just really glad the dance went well and everyone had fun.”
The night really was successful, with nearly 400 students attending the dance and having a great time posing for pictures and dancing. With senior member of the Snowco court and Student Council member Miles Conlin at the helm of the DJ table, the dance was destined to be fun.
Now we put away our dancin’ shoes until prom… Winter hasn’t yet begun but May will be here faster than we know it.
