The 2014 Spring Sports season was yet another year where the Branford Hornets optimized their potential, and saw more success across the board in many sports.
This year the Branford co-ed Sailing team finished undefeated in their regattas, and had good individual and team performances at the State Championship.
This season was a rebuilding year for the boys’ baseball team who with a record of 6-13 are not eligible for CIAC Class L state championships. They concluded their season Friday May 23rd against Cheshire.
The boys and girls co-ed golf team is preparing for a good showing at the Division 2 Golf State championship on June 11th at Fairview Farms in Harwinton. They concluded the regular season with a record of 16-3 and one of the most successful seasons in team history.
The boys’ lacrosse team just missed out on the state tournament when they lost in overtime to Foran 8-7 at home on Tuesday. They finished the season at 6-10. Girls’ lacrosse finishes the regular season with a record of 8-7-1. They look to move forward in the SCC and State tournaments where they will have their fair share of success.
The girls’ softball still has two remaining regular season games, but currently stands at a record of 9-10 which is good enough for them to reach the Class L state playoffs. They have been playing very well of late and are heating up at the right time for the postseason.
Boys’ tennis finishes the regular season at 8-9. They faced a top tier schedule this year, which makes them nice underdogs heading into the State Championship May 31st– June 4th at Yale. Girls’ tennis season looks to cap off a 12-6 regular season record with another good showing at the State Championship. Once again the tennis team has succeeded down the stretch and is in good shape heading into the last few matches of the year.
The boys’ outdoor track team finished the season with a 13-3 record and were SCC Oronoque Division Champions. The team finished 2nd at the SCC west sectional meet and placed 9th at the SCC Championship on Tuesday. They also look to repeat the same performance they had last year and finish runner ups at the Class MM State championships. According to Captain Pat Laske, “The team has shown great progress throughout the year, and has competed hard against all of the great competition we face.”
Girls’ Outdoor track finished with a record of 8-5 and another good year. They finished 5th at the SCC championship meet Tuesday. The CIAC Class MM State championship is on June 3rd at Middletown High School.
