Hornets Winter Sports Hopeful for Competitive Season

By Ryan Connell Winter is in full swing, and so are all of the Hornet’s sports teams. The boys and girls indoor track teams have had a few races and already have had numerous states qualifiers. According to some of the members on the team, they say that the team is looking as strong as ever before. They look to repeat as SCC West Sectional champs and look to have great performances at the SCC and State meets. The boy’s basketball team has started off the year with a .500 record. They are looking to put together a good team to make a surprise run in the tournaments. They are an undersized team who will rely heavily on its outside scoring and good defense. The girl’s basketball team has a new coach this year, and is looking to find some winning ways. They will try and play some competitive games and score some wins of their own this year. The boy’s hockey team is looking to make yet another deep run in the playoffs this season. Over the last few seasons, the hornets have made great advancements in the SCC and State playoffs. If they can make progress towards the end of the season look to them as a team to watch in the tournaments. The girl’s hockey team is now a co-op with East Haven and North Branford. They have already seen significant improvements and hope to continue to evolve and develop as a team. The ski team has began practicing and is looking to have some good races throughout the winter. They had a late start due to the weather and vacation, but now they are conditioned and ready to compete. The boys swim team is a great team in the SCC. They are top 5 and are looking to surprise a lot of people this season. The wrestling team has already had a few meets and some good showings at the invitationals. The team will be a top competitor in the SCC and State tournaments as they look for yet another successful campaign. The dance team is ready for competition this year as they try to defend their State title in hip hop and look to have finished well in jazz and kick. The outlook for this season looks impressive for the Hornets. Go out and support all of the Branford winter sports teams!
