Last year, the girl’s soccer team made BHS proud by claiming the SCC title for the first time ever. Although they had never won the championship before, Ms. Kohut, the soccer team’s coach, wasn’t surprised by their victory, saying, “we beat some really good teams in that tournament to make it to the finals, so once we got to the finals, in my heart I knew we going to win it.”
The girls’ hard work and dedication was the key to their success, according to Ms. Kohut, especially that of Becca Vitale, who was honored last year with the Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
This year the team is 12-1, with the only loss coming against Hamden. On Tuesday, the Hornets defeated Wilbur Cross 5-1 on the team’s senior celebration day. The Hornets next play Friday at 3:45 p.m. against Sheehan at home.
Just some of the exceptional players this year include Rachel Cholewinski, Tanya Altrui, and Sara Consolo, although Ms. Kohut says that the team as a whole is “talented and well-rounded.”
“We’re having a great year, and we have a lot of talent,” says Ms, Kohut. “Our goal is to go back to the SCC tournament, so I hope so.”
