Students at Branford High school are required to pay for a parking pass to park their car in the school’s parking lots. The students and teachers definitely have differing views on this issue. The Branford high School community, being filled with teenagers and grown adults, sometimes find the cost to be a bit pricey for parking. Commuters to school can even get a parking ticket for not having a parking pass in their car.
Mr. Briganti, the vice principal, said “I believe the money goes back to the school maintaining the parking lot.” Branford High school is not the only high school in the area that has the students pay to park. “A couple years ago we were the least expensive parking high school,” Mr. Briganti said,“ I’ve heard schools that charge up to 180 dollars where in comparison, Branford High School only charges around 20-25 dollars.”
Student Jharnee Laird said, “If we go to a public school and it’s free to go here it should be free to park!”
Another student Megan said, “I don’t think that it’s fair that we have to pay to park our car, some families maybe can’t afford it and students want to be able to drive to school, but if they don’t have the money, it’s going to hold them back and maybe affect their attendance at school.”
