Another new staff member at Branford High School is Ms. Alicia Loesche, a teacher in the Mathematics Department. She began this year along with Mr. Smith, who was profiled on The Buzz previously.
She attended Sacred Heart Academy for high school, and University of Connecticut and Quinnipiac University for college.
She holds a bachelor’s in math and a masters in secondary education.
She realized she wanted to become a teacher when she was only in 4th grade.
“In high school I had the same math teacher for 3 years who was a really awesome teacher,” Ms. Loesche said. “She made math come alive so I wanted to do the same.”
Four years ago, she intered here at BHS and taught for 2 years in East Haven.
“I wanted to come back to where I started,” she responded when asked what brought her here to teach at BHS.
Ms. Loesche teaches Algebra II Honors and integrated math in rooms B24 and D28 and she also teaches concepts in room B26.
Her favorite aspect of teaching at BHS is the community in the school.
“From students to staff, everyone is accepting and welcoming,” she said.
Outside of school, Ms. Loesche loves to go to the beach, traveling and cooking.
