The traditional end of year school event “Salapalooza” will not be taking place this year at Branford High School, school officials said.
This highly anticipated day that excites students with it’s outdoor activities, games, and food has teachers and administration concerned. The cause of the wariness being felt by BHS staff? According to Mr. Panagoulias, the event “is being cancelled because it was difficult for administration to keep the event under control last year. There is also a lack of funding that makes it difficult for student council to provide food and activities that keep students engaged.”
The picnic had been held at the end of the year since 1997.
In addition, as many students and teachers witnessed, last year seniors attached balloons to a blow up doll and allowed it to float to the ceiling of the commons during the picnic.
When asked about the situation one student said, “Salapalooza being cancelled will not keep the senior prank from happening.”
Regardless of the reason behind the cancellation, it’s safe to say that the entire student body is disappointed that the event will not be taking place this year.
